It’s been a busy week or so. I’m getting ready for a Wedding. I’ve done weddings before but not my usual type of photography. That made me want to get some different gear. I looked on Craigslist and eBay. What I like about craigslist is that I meet with people. I had two really nice wedding photographers that gave me some tips and encouragement. It’s always nice to talk to other professionals and learn new things.
I bought a backup body and the last owner had customize the settings. Some of the things I like and others took awhile to figure out. He also suggested that I change my gear a bit if I could to have a better chance at an easier day of shooting. I had wanted to get that other lens and so that was my next purchase. Lots of money to do one event but I feel its worth it to further my skills.
The other guy has done a lot of weddings. I got the 70-200mm and a Canon 2x extender. We talked about weddings and also sports. He had a lot to say and I hope to take some of it into practice.
For you gear heads my wedding bag contains: two Canon 5d2 bodies, a Canon 24-70mm 2.8, a Canon 70-200mm 2.8, a Canon 2x extender. a Canon 50mm 2.5 Macro, a Canon 85mm 1.8 and a light disc. Many batteries and cards. As you can tell I like canon lenses. I’ve had others but feel better with Canon gear on a Canon. All of this fits in one bag. I might bring two 580ex2 speed lights but not sure yet.
The 24-70mm I got at Kenmore Camera. It was the first purchase. Plus Alex gave me some hints on what to do. I’ve had that the longest and have liked using it around the house with my kids. Good practice, my kids move fast and its dark right now.
My cards are formatted and batteries charged. Getting ready for the rehearsal dinner and then it’s the big day. More to come soon.
